Focus Scripture Matthew 5:13-16 & Isa 49:1-6 Preached 21st July 2019

The purpose of every Christian and every church is to be light and salt for the world.

As a congregation the vision or purpose of the Karana Downs Uniting church is to “Shine God’s light from the hillside.” At first this may seem a bit vague, but it is drawn directly from the imagery of Matthew 5:14-16 and from the location of the church building, literally set upon a hillside in Mount Crosby Queensland Australia. It may be small but even a small light set upon a hill on a dark night can give guidance, encouragement and hope to the lost and the weary. When that light is not our own light but the light of Jesus burning in us like oil in a lamp or bouncing off us like light off a mirror think how much more it can do. “You are the light of the world... let your light shine before others.”

Over the next 5 or so weeks I will be preaching on passages which relate to the vision, mission and values of the Karana downs Uniting Church church. That means that for a little while I will not be following the Lectionary.
