Focus Readings:Colossians 3:12–17 Luke 2:41–52

The little boy Jesus in the temple didn't seem to be very obedient, but the broader picture of this story and the reading from Collossians is that we should be obedient firs to God not to our families our our parents. Of course the motivation for this is the gift we have received from God in Christ. On the first Christmas Christ was clothed with us so that we could be clthed with Christ. And how do we show loyalty to God? What do we do to be obedient? We love our neighbours including our famlies.

Questions for thought or discussion:

What do you think and feel about the idea that our primary loyalty is to God and not to our families? What do you make of Jesus' behaviour? How would you describe a person who was obedient to God? (What would s/he look like? How would they behave? What sorts of things would they say and do?)
