Focus Reading Matthew 25:14-30

In the world of Jesus a talent was an incredible amount of money. It is 15 years wages for a labourer. The master in this parable is amazingly generous in trusting his servants with so much. Even the last servant with his one talent, but this last servant did not understand what he had or how generous his master was!! So he never really trusted his master. He never really had the gift.

But the first two servants did understand the amazing thing that had been given to them & the trust their master had shown & the responded by exercising that gift.

God has trusted you with the astonishing gift of love, forgiveness and new life in Jesus. God trusts you with a treasure too great to fully understand. Believe that. Live with that in mind. If you do, your life, the gift, and the lives of those around you will grow. And more than this when you reach the gate of heaven and Jesus meets you there you will hear these words:

“Well done - good and faithful servant... enter into the joys of the Lord.”

Questions for thought or discussion.

What has your church or faith community done with God’s incredible gift of love? How have you exercised that gift. Look at your context, and the people, gifts and abilities God has given you; What opportunities are there to exercise the gift as a group? To what extent do you really trust God’s generosity? What do you think God will do if you exercise the gift and then mess things up?
