Focus reading: Hebrews 7:23-28
Last week at our church service I said the most powerful image of baptism for me is the image of Jesus being buried in the tomb and being raised to new life. (Romans 6) I believe that baptism is a symbol or sign that Jesus shares his life with us and our life with God. Jesus as I believe in him is truly God and truly human. This means that when God the Father looks at us God sees a human being like Jesus God’s beloved Son. It also means that when we look at God and go to God in prayer we go to some-one like us, a real human being who knows what it’s like to struggle with life and death. For us Jesus the human being and the Son of God, was born as we were born, lived as we lived, felt joy and sadness as we do, died as we will all one day die. For us Jesus the real human being and Son of God was also raised from the dead and prays for us in our time of need and as we bring our thanks. In baptism we are reminded that with us he was born, with us he lives, with us he dies, and with us he prays. This is what we celebrate every Sunday and every day of our Christian lives.
