Reflecting on the experienc of Job, the story of Bartimaus from Mark and also the priestly role of Christ I suggest prayer has at least five purposes.

So what is prayer good for? What is its purpose? First prayer gives us someone to cry out to in our need, our hurt, our anger and even our joy. Second it reminds us of the awsome and amazing character of God. Third it draws us into relationship with others and with God.

Fourth it is an opportunity to receive from God and from others.

Fifth it is an opportunity to give to others for our prayer can lead us and more importantly God to action.

Questions for thought and discussion.

What do you think the purpose of prayer is? How do you react to the five purposes I have suggested? What do you need to pray about now?
