It is hard to imagine a figure in the Bible more flawed than David. Yet through David we receive the Psalms (the people of God worshipping in song) and the promise of Jesus. God not only looks beyond our external limitations to our heart, God even sees beyond our heart and beyond our sin and looks at us with love and mercy. God calls us all, and anoints us all with the Spirit. God sees our possibilities! God in Jesus also saw beyond the blindness of the man that the Pharisees could not see past. God sees beyond the impressive older sons of Jessie and God sees beyond David’s sinfulness to what he could be. God even sees beyond your age, your physical and emotional flaws and your darkest sins and sees you for what you could be in his love. God sees the possibilities in a sinner like David, an outcast like the blind man, and God sees the possibilities in you!
Questions for thought or discussion.
When you think about people, what or who do you have difficulty
seeing past? David was chosen by God, an adulterer, a murderer, a
great soldier, a terrible father, a great musician, a great friend
and a passionate believer. Would you want him as your king, Prime
Minister or president? (Why or why not?) What are your flaws? How
deep are they? What possibilities can God see in you?
