Gospel centred sermons, based on the lectionary often in advance.

Jul 30, 2012

All three of today's readings reflect our broken-ness as human beings. They reflect our tendency, to get distracted by things which while very important are not central to our faith, our salvation or even the church.

In Ephesians Paul warns us against this and tells us that what is important is our unity in Jesus.

In other words we should not get distracted by the latest fad in theology, or even by issues that are not central to the Gospel. Instead of being distracted by these arguments we need to “build up the body of Christ” - that is what the gifts of the Spirit are for- Serving each-other and serving Jesus in love.

All of us have a calling, to be followers of Christ and to use our God given gifts and abilities in service of him and those he has given us to love. It is all too easy to get distracted by arguments over important but secondary matters!

Questions for thought or discussion.

“How can I contribute? What is God calling me to be or to do?”
