Focus Readings: 1 Peter 3:18-22, Mark 1:9-15
When Jesus says "The kingdom of God has come near repent and believe the Good News" - We should listen to him and turn to him and believe in his words because he not only knows what it’s like to be God, he knows what it’s like to be human. He not only knows what it’s like to authority over all things, he knows what it is like to submit to suffering, and death. He not only knows what it is like to be in the most intimate and powerful relationship there is- the relationship of the trinity - totally one with the Father and the Holy Spirit - he knows what it is like to be alone, abandoned, denied and betrayed by his closest friends. He knows what it is like to be dying, to die and even be dead BUT most wonderfully he knows what it is like to be raised to new life and at his Baptism he knows what it is like to receive the Holy Spirit as a human being.
So why should we listen to Jesus? Because he not only speaks with the authority of God, he speaks with the authority of human experience.
Because of this we can have confidence and hope in this life and in the life to come. And while we live this life he gives us guidance for the way we should live; live for others and ourselves.
What challenges, what hopes, what messages is our human friend Jesus, the living Son of God speaking to you today?
